TSA Awards Raytheon Technologies $319 Million Support Contract

The Transportation Security Administration last Thursday awarded Raytheon Technologies

[RTX] a $318.6 million contract to provide support services related the deployment and removal of explosive detection systems (EDS) used to automatically screen checked bags at airports for explosives. Raytheon Technologies and Leidos [LDOS] were the incumbents on the previous Screening Equipment Deployment Services for Checked Baggage contract, splitting the work based on three regions across the U.S. Leidos did not bid on the new contract. The company is bidding on a checkpoint support contract. The new contract runs from April 1 to March 31, 2026. Under the contract, Raytheon Technologies will support TSA’s Acquisition Program Management Deployment and Logistics Division. Services that will be provided under the contract include on-site coordination and oversight support of airport aviation security screening projects, coordination and execution of screening equipment installations, relocations and removals, design support, site surveys, shipping, rigging, test readiness validation, site preparation and site restoration, a TSA spokesperson said. TSA’s EDS systems are supplied by Leidos and Smiths Detection.

USCIS Awards HID Global $70M for Smart Cards

HID Global has received a potential $70.3 million contract from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to provide smart cards that will be used to produce various immigration benefits such as Permanent Resident Cards and Employment Authorization Documentation cards, which are known as the Secure Identification Platform requirement. HID, part of Sweden’s ASSA ABLOY Group, is the incumbent contractor for the card production. Under the new contract, which has five one-year ordering periods and runs through March 31, 2026, HID will produce between 4 million and 8.5 million cards per year. The cards will contain radio frequency identification and embedded holographic images and will serve as proof of adjudicated benefits or immigrant status. The polycarbonate cards are secure, tamper resistant and difficult to counterfeit. HID will also provide background artwork and security features, program management support services, technical analysis, secure storage and delivery.

CACI on $700M DHS Award to Provide National Security Investigations

CACI International [CACI] says it has been awarded a five-year, multiple-award Blanket Purchase Agreement by the Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement to provide national security investigations to the department. The contract represents new work for CACI, which will provide enterprise technology to ICE in support of national security investigations. The company already provides national security investigations to the Defense Department and intelligence community. “CACI looks forward to applying its more than 17 years of experience supporting national security investigations to help protect the Department of Homeland Security and the integrity of its people and mission,” says John Mengucci, president and CEO of CACI.

DARPA Awards FLIR $21M to Develop Protective Fabrics for Chem-Bio Defense

FLIR Systems [FLIR] has received a potential five-year $20.5 million contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop lightweight fabrics with a built-in ability defend against chemical and biological agents, from VX to chlorine gas to Ebola virus. Initial funding is $11.5 million. The novel fabrics for personal protective suits, boots, gloves and eye products will be embedded with catalysts and chemistries to fight and reduce chemical and biological threats upon contact. FLIR says the goal of DARPA’s Personalize Protective Biosystems program is to reduce the weight and physiological burden of current personal protective equipment so that soldiers and specialists can better perform their tasks. The program could benefit soldiers, medical workers and first responders. FLIR says that after five years, it will have a suite of prototype protective fabrics and garments ready for transition to a program of record with the Defense Department.

CISA Awards GDIT $5M for Continued Management Support Services

The Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in March awarded General Dynamics [GD] Information Technology segment a $4.7 million task order to continue providing management support services for six months pending the award of a new contract under an ongoing competition. CISA expects award of the new contract by June 1. The task order will enable transition support and allow time to complete the suitability process on the follow-on requirement. The task order has a two-month base period and two two-month options.

OSI Systems Gets $11M in Orders

OSI Systems [OSIS] says its Security segment has received two orders worth a combined $11 million, including a $6 million contract for operations and maintenance of critical infrastructure facilities. Under the contract, the company will operate and continue services of Rapiscan and AS&E cargo, vehicle, parcel, and personnel explosive and contraband detection systems. The Security segment also received a $5 million order from a U.S.-based customer to provide service to its baggage and parcel inspection systems and cargo screening systems. “We are pleased to continue our service and support for this customer’s installed base of cargo screening and BPI equipment,” says Deepak Chopra, chairman and CEO of OSI Systems. The company didn’t disclose the names of either customer.

Greece Awards Smiths Detection Contract for Cargo Screening Systems

Smiths Detection says that the Hellenic Police have selected the company to provide two HCVMe high-energy mobile X-Ray systems for the screening of cargo to secure the European Union’s southern border. The cargo inspection systems will screen for illegal immigrants, contraband, threats and fraud. Smiths Detection says it has also been contracted by the Hellenic Police for one more HCVMe system that will be delivered later this year for other security purposes. The company says the system can penetrate up to 200mm of steel and inspect up to 80 trucks per hour. Smiths Detection’s Greek partner on the deal is Proton S.A.

DoD Awards Citadel Defense $5M Follow-On Contract for Titan CUAS

Citadel Defense has received a $5 million follow-on order from the Defense Department to provide its Titan counter-drone system to protect U.S. troops from small drone threats. The San Diego-based company say Titan has been used by U.S. Combatant Commands for three years. Titan an autonomous, artificial intelligence-enabled counter unmanned aircraft system for use in fixed, mobile and dismounted operations. The system uses adaptive frequency jamming to provide force protection. Citadel said it will accelerate delivery of the systems to address urgent operational needs to meet an aggressive deployment schedule for the troops. In addition to U.S. forces, Titan is used by the Border Patrol and Coast Guard.
