The Coast Guard Research and Development Center, in support of the Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate, Borders and Maritime Security Division, has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for research and development activities related to technologies for improving the nation’s ability to protect the population, infrastructure, and economic security on and surrounding the U.S. inland waterways. The Coast Guard hopes to provide a basis for follow-on analysis to identify research and development opportunities that meet the Borders and Maritime Security Division technology program and Coast Guard goals. Technologies will be assessed based on their ability to reduce maritime mission risks in small vessel identification and tracking, tracking certain dangerous cargo barges, river level/velocity detection; and information-based awareness.
