TSA Seeks to Boost Cybersecurity of Surface Transportation System

The Transportation Security Administration has issued a Request for Information and draft Statement of Work for an Internet Access Point Scanning and Scoring Solution tool. The agency says that due to a limited number of cyber human resources to directly assist and provide guidance to over 100 company networks, an automated solution is required. It says the tool must be able to analyze cybersecurity networks in the pipeline, surface and aviation sectors. “The product must be commercial off-the-shelf with the ability for customizable features if required,” the agency says. TSA Innovation Task Force Opens New Window for Demonstrations

The Transportation Security Administration’s Innovation Task Force has opened the second window of its Innovative Demonstrations for Enterprise Advancement (IDEA) Broad Agency Announcement that seeks capability solutions to support the agency’s mission essential functions. Window 2 of the IDEA BAA has five focus areas: Security Effectiveness, which include solutions that provide explosive detection through non-iodizing radiation for both on-person and carry-on property at both passenger screening checkpoints and non-traditional screening environments, clear on-person and accessible property alarms seamlessly, provide automatic validation of traveler and aviation worker identities and risk status, and detect on-person anomalies at a distance; Screening Efficiency solutions that enable secure remote data transmission to enable remote screening, enable seamless data reporting of fielded security equipment, lower false alarm rates for on-person and accessible property screening; and enable dynamic algorithm switching for screening of a traveler based on their risk status; Traveler Experience solutions that push critical communications directly to travelers, and reduce travelers’ stress and cognitive burden through audio and or visual means; Regulatory and Compliance solutions that support the inspection activity of regulated aircraft and airport operators, validate chain of custody for pre-screened cargo, validate passenger screening operations at last point of departure airports, and enable remote and immediate incident reporting; and Innovation Checkpoint solutions for accessible property and on-person screening, alarm resolution, data integration, crowd movement displays or analytics, equipment configurations, and upgrades for new and or existing security equipment.
