Evolv Technology has raised $30 million in new funding from various investors, including former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s firm, Finback Investment Partners, and existing investors such as Bill Gates, DCVC, General Catalyst Partners, Lux Capital and SineWave Ventures. Evolv says the new capital will be used to expand sales, marketing, customer support, channel programs and product development. Total funding in the company is now $75 million. The security company has also promoted Peter George, previously chief commercial officer, as CEO. George at one time was president and CEO of the cyber security company Fidelis Security Systems. Evolve co-founder and prior CEO Mike Ellenbogen is now focused on expanding research, development and productization.

(D-Mich.) says the fiscal year 2020 budget signed into law in late 2019 includes $15 million for Customs and Border Protection to purchase inspection and screening systems for the new Gordie Howe International Bridge that will connect Windsor, Canada and Detroit. The bridge is expected to be completed in 2024.

Viken Detection says that Jonathan Decker has been hired as general counsel effective Jan. 27. Decker previously served as vice president and associate General Counsel of CIRCOR International and was corporate counsel at Analogic Corp. “Not only is Jon a talented and highly credentialed lawyer, he has great business instincts and shares my aspirations for Viken,” says Jim Ryan, the company’s CEO.
