By Calvin Biesecker House and Senate conferees yesterday approved an FY '10 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill that would boost discretionary spending nearly 7 percent to $42.8 billion and provides strong support for border security and Coast Guard acquisition programs, including the Deepwater modernization effort. The $42.8 billion bill, which must still be approved by the full House and Senate, is nearly $300 million shy of the Obama administration's request.
