Boeing Rides Commercial Airplane Business, Defense Execution To Strong Opening Quarter

Boeing [BA] on Wednesday reported a strong start to its fiscal year posting double-digit earnings growth and solid sales driven by its commercial aircraft segment and bottom line performance at its defense segment.Net income in the first quarter soared 38 percent to $1.3 billion, $1.87 earnings per share (EPS), from $965 million ($1.28 EPS), aided largely by lower pension costs but also by higher operating earnings at the Commercial Airplanes segment and improved margins at the Defense, Space & Security…
