Bell Helicopter [TXT] was awarded a $85.5 million contract to conduct research for and develop updates to weapons systems in support of H-1 aircraft for the U.S. Navy and government of Pakistan, the Pentagon announced Monday

The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract is part of a system configuration set (SCS), which includes creating prototypes of system capability improvements to the H-1 fleets for emerging needs.

The contract combines purchases for the U.S. Navy with 94.12 percent ($80.5 million) and the government of Pakistan with 5.88 percent ($5 million). Pakistan’s purchases are under the Foreign Military Sales program.

Fiscal 2014 navy research and development funds of $626,000 were obligated at the time of award, all of which will expire at the end of the fiscal year.

The contract was not competitively procured, pursuant to FAR 6.302-1.The contracting activity is the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division at China Lake, Calif.
