Applied Composites on Wednesday said it has acquired Alliance Spacesystems, LLC, a developer and manufacturer of composite structures and assemblies for the commercial, civil and government satellite markets.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition is the fifth by Applied Composites, which was created by the private equity firm AE Industrial (AEI) Partners
. Based in California, Applied Composites provides composite components, assemblies and tooling to the aerospace, defense and space systems markets.
Alliance, which is also based in California, supplies high-strength composite structures to a number of customers including Boeing [BA], Lockheed Martin [LMT], Northrop Grumman [NOC], Ball Aerospace [BLL], Maxar Technologies [MAXR], Sierra Nevada Corp. and others. The company also makes structures for launch vehicles, produces rigid composite solar array substrates, and provides end-to-end composite manufacturing services.
Kirk Konert, a partner at AEI, said in a statement that Applied Composites was formed with the goal “to create a one-stop shop for complex composites, offering unparalleled products and services to the aerospace, defense and space industries. With the addition of Alliance, we have taken another step in building a uniquely diverse and vertically integrated composites platform.”
Applied Composites said investment in the space industry “is at an all-time high.”
Following the acquisition, Applied Composites now has about 750 employees. Previous acquisitions included Applied Composites Engineering, EnCore Composite Structures, AC&A, and San Diego Composites.
Alliance’s financial adviser on the deal was KippsDeSanto & Co. and Applied Composites was advised by RSM.
