Air Force Successfully Test Launches Minuteman III ICBM

The Air Force successfully test launched an unarmed Minuteman III ICBM Sunday from Vandenberg AFB, Calif., according to a service statement.

The Air Force said it will next test launch an unarmed Minuteman III Thursday. The previous Minuteman III test launch was May 22.

The ICBM test launch program supports United States strategic deterrence policy as outlined in the 2010 Defense Department Nuclear Posture Review by demonstrating the operational credibility of the Minuteman III. DoD and Energy Department agencies will use data collected from the test launch to ensure contribute to the nation’s strategic deterrence goals.
