The Air Force said Friday it awarded Lockheed Martin [LMT] a $94.7 million firm-fixed-price contract to retrofit 12 F-16 C/D Block 60 multi-role fighter jets for Oman.
Air Force spokeswoman Laura McGowan said Tuesday in an email the retrofit effort is for F-16 hardware and software. McGowan said she couldn’t elaborate on the specific hardware and software.
McGowan said Lockheed Martin will design, develop, fabricate, integrate, test, verify, manufacture, deliver and support the retrofit requirements, which she said will bring the current Omani aircraft to a configuration similar to the F-16 C/D Block 50s bought last year. McGowan said a Foreign Military Sale for the Block 50s was initiated Nov. 16, 2011, when a Letter of Offer and Acceptance was signed. A $600 million contract to Lockheed Martin for 12 F-16 C/D Block 50 Multi-Role aircraft (10 C models, two D models) for Oman was awarded four weeks later on Dec. 14.
Retrofit work is expected to be complete by May 16, 2016, according to the Air Force statement.
