U.K. Firm Introduces Rapid Deployment Surveillance System for Border Hot Spots

Britain’s Blighter Surveillance Systems

has introduced a lightweight radar and camera system designed for rapid deployment in border security hot spots and similar security applications. The Blighter Scout Revolution 360 Passive Electronic Scanning Array radar, low light camera, thermal imaging system and integrated radar tracker can be mounted on vehicle and trailer masts quickly for field deployment. Blighter says the system can track humans at 7.4 km and vehicles at 22 km in hilly and mountainous areas. The company also says the system can be integrated with a range of electro-optic camera systems. Blighter says the surveillance system is integrated through its BlighterView HMI 2 command control software platform enabling auto-cueing with manual override. The company says there is an optional video tracking application also that allows the camera system to automatically follow an intruder once the radar has cued it to the target location.

VidSys Opens Regional Headquarters in Dubai

Physical security information management solutions provider VidSys, Inc. has established a new Middle East headquarters in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, bolstering its commitment to the region. The new office will be led by Philip Stockham, director of Europe, Middle East and Africa Operations. VidSys says it entered the Middle East market in 2010 in Abu Dhabi and now has number deployments in the Gulf Cooperation Council states bordering the Arabian Gulf. The company’s customers include central and local government agencies, and commercial firms with critical infrastructure assets. “For both public agencies and private sector firms, the Middle East today is a center of extraordinary innovation and investment in technologies to improve security and operational efficiency,” says Michael Jackson, chairman and CEO of VidSys.

Airbus, NCS Establish Center of Excellence in Singapore for Safe City Solutions

Europe’s Airbus Group says its Airbus Defence and Space division and Singapore’s NCS have jointly established a center of excellence in Singapore for the research, development and commercialization of safe city solutions in Asia. The center will focus on technologies and solutions like data fusion and predictive analytics, video content analytics and crowd simulation to support emergency services and operations in an urban environment, allowing data sharing between various city stakeholders. “This collaboration offers the exchange of advanced technological idea and marks a key milestone in the development of the information and communications technological landscape in this region,” says John Pelissier, managing director of Airbus Defence and Space in Singapore.

Cross Match Technologies has introduced its new Guardian Module fingerprint scanner which has been designed for integration into advanced biometric identity management kiosks, eGates and workstations. The system, which is based on the Guardian 10-print livescan technology, combines the company’s latest optical design, illumination and software to accurately capture quality images from both wet and dry fingers without the need to recalibrate, an important capability when processing large volumes of individuals.

Upgraded L-3 Body Scanner Passes EU Standard 2 Screening

L-3 Communications [LLL] says its ProVision 2 checkpoint body scanner has passed the European Regulation Standard 2 screening requirement under the European Civil Aviation Conference Common Evaluation Process for security equipment. “Airports will now have a choice of deploying screening solutions complying with either ECAC Standard 2 or Standard 1, which the ProVision 2 passed in 2013,” says Tom Ripp, president and L-3 Security & Detection Systems. The ProVision 2 is more compact than the original ProVision, taking up less real estate with a lower ceiling.
