Second Missile Defense Radar Deployed In Japan

The United States and Japan announced the deployment of a second Army Navy/Transportable Radar Surveillance (AN/TPY-2) radar to Kyogamisaki on Dec. 26.The second radar is meant to enhance sensor coverage for ballistic missile defense of Japan and the U.S. The Kyogamisaki Communications Site (KCS) radar is planned to enhance an existing radar at Shariki in northern Japan, the Pentagon said in a statement.The United States fielded and tested the radar and constructed the facility in Japan.
