Raytheon's [RTN] BBN Technologies said it has been awarded $2.1 million in funding by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for two projects under the Information in a Photon, or InPho, program. The goal of the two projects is to develop new theory and experimental techniques that enable optical communications and imaging systems to operate at their ultimate limits of information encoding efficiency as permitted by the laws of quantum physics.
