Raytheon [RTN] and Germany’s Lechmotoren, a company of the Jenoptik Group, are partnering to produce advanced power generators for the Patriot air and missile defense system, Raytheon said on Friday.

The contract between the companies directs Jenoptil to build power plants, power generators, test equipment, and spares for an unnamed global partner of the Patriot system. The companies are also discussing opportunities to provide power generation equipment for two more Patriot partner nations, one from NATO, Raytheon said.

“Raytheon looks forward to continuing its meaningful partnership with Jenoptik well into the future. This effort underscores our ongoing commitment to deepen existing, and develop new, partnerships with German industry. The 13-nation global Patriot network offers Jenoptik and other industry partners access to an export market of established users worldwide–”an opportunity unique to the Patriot system,” Ralph Acaba, vice president of integrated air and missile defense at Raytheon’s integrated defense systems business, said in a statement.

“This order is another milestone to us in the long-term partnership between Raytheon and Jenoptik. We are convinced that we can continue to contribute to the Patriot success story with our innovative products. Jenoptik is currently developing a new hybrid power supply for the Patriot system, after proving the functionality of the power supply’s prototype in March 2015,” said Michael Mertin, the president and CEO of Jenoptik.

Raytheon is also preparing for Germany to select a contractor for the TLVS missile defense program (tactical air defense system), which was expected to occur by this month (Defense Daily, Jan. 8).

Raytheon’s TLVS offer utilizes the Patriot system with a new common command and control system offering open architecture and flexible role capability; introduction of a 360-degree multi-function radar using the latest radar technology; and a missile mix including the PAC-3 MSE,IRI-T SL, GEM, and PAC-3 CRI.
