Pentagon To Award Raytheon Production Contract For New Interceptors

The Pentagon has said it intends to award a sole-source contract to Raytheon [RTN] for the production of up to 216 of the latest version of the Standard Missile-3 to be deployed on Navy ships for ballistic missile defense.  The contract could reach a value of $3 billion for the SM-3 Block 1B interceptors, which have been undergoing testing, the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) said in a posting on the Federal Business Opportunities website.
