The Pentagon issued a $3.4 billion contract to manufacturer Lockheed Martin [LMT] late Friday afternoon for the seventh batch of F-35 Joint Strike Fighters, just days away from the end of fiscal 2013.

The Pentagon is ordering 35 JSFs for the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps, as well as for international customers Norway, Italy and the United Kingdom.

The award includes 19 of the Air Force conventional aircraft, six of the short take-off and vertical-landing (STOVL) version for the Marines, and four carrier variants for the Navy. Norway is getting two conventional JSFs, and Italy one. One STOVL variant is for the United Kingdom.

The Pentagon and Lockheed Martin agreed in principle on the cost in July.
