Christopher Boyer has become the new chairperson of the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Information Security and Privacy Advisory Board (ISPAB), Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and NIST Director Willie May said Friday.

Boyer currently serves as assistant vice president for global public policy at AT&T Services, Inc. [T], responsible for the company’s strategic policy positions connected to cybersecurity.

Starting May 1, Boyer succeeds chair Peter Weinberger. Boyer has served as an ISPAB board member since 2012 and his term as chairman ends in 2020.

The ISPAB, created n 1987, advises NIST, the Secretary of Homeland Security, and the director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) on information security and privacy issues connected to federal government information systems. The board is also responsible for reviewing proposed standards and guidelines developed by NIST.

The next ISPAB meeting is set to be held from June 15-17 in Washington, D.C. Meetings are open to the public.
