Adm. Jonathan Greenert, the Chief of Naval Operations, has realigned his staff at the Pentagon, consolidating offices responsible for managing resources, integration and procurement under a newly created post.

Vice Adm. Bill Burke assumed the new position of deputy chief of naval operations for war systems on Monday and he will now oversee the offices of Expeditionary Warfare, Surface Warfare, Undersea Warfare and Air Warfare. The four offices had previously been under the group responsible for integration of capabilities and resources.

That group will continue to administer the offices for programming, assessments, fiscal management, joint capabilities and integration, special programs and innovation, test and evaluation and technology requirements.

Greenert’s restructuring is designed to enhance the Navy’s ability to meet fiscal and fleet readiness requirements, the Navy said.

“These changes are intended to improve decision making processes associated with planning, programming, budgeting, and execution, and enhance our focus on war fighting capability and total ownership cost,” said Burke, who had previously been the deputy CNO for fleet readiness and logistics.
