The Navy on Thursday awarded Lockheed Martin [LMT] an advance acquisition contract worth nearly $920 million for long lead time, materials, parts and components for the manufacture and delivery of 94 F-35 low rate initial production (LRIP) aircraft, according to a Defense Department statement.The contract provides for 78 conventional variant F-35As, with the Air Force receiving 44, Italy two, Turkey two, Australia eight, Norway six and 16 for various foreign military sale (FMS) customers.
