Lockheed Martin [LMT] says it has successfully completed the Critical Design Review for the fingerprint identification capability for the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system, which will replace the agency’s Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System. “This is the first step in achieving the quantum leap in capability that NGI will deliver as a state-of-the-art biometric identification system for the FBI,” says Barbara Humpton, vice president of Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems & Global Services group. “The NGI team is thrilled to begin the immediate development and integration of these fingerprint search components into the system as we continue to meet milestones on schedule and on budget.” The fingerprint matching capability for NGI is being provided by MorphoTrak, a unit of France’s SAFRAN Group, under contract to Lockheed Martin. NGI is being developed to accommodate other biometric capabilities in the future.
