Kaine Eyes SASC Tightening Minimum Amphib Levels

The ranking member of a Senate panel this week said he may push to modify the Navy’s minimum amphibious warship readiness requirements in the upcoming fiscal year 2026 defense policy bill. During a March 25 hearing on surface shipbuilding, Senate Armed Services Seapower subcommittee ranking member Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) noted a December Government Accountability Office (GAO) report said the Navy was likely to face difficulties meeting its statutory requirement to maintain at least 31 large deck amphibious ships given…
