The International Security Advisory Board (ISAB) members appointed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met for the first time recently.
Former Defense Secretary William Perry will serve as chairman of the group that provides independent insight and advice on scientific, technical, and policy aspects of arms control, disarmament, proliferation, international security, and related aspects of public diplomacy. The Board’s recommendations are made directly to Clinton and the State Department.
Among other Board members are Michael Anastasio, former Director of Los Alamos National Laboratory and Livermore National Laboratory; Charles Curtis, senior adviser to the Center for Strategic and International Studies and President Emeritus of the Nuclear Threat Initiative, who will also serve as vice chairman; Robert Hunter, director of the Center for Transatlantic Security Studies at the National Defense University; Shirley Ann Jackson, president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; David Kay, former head of the Iraq Survey Group and UN Chief Weapons Inspector; retired Army Gen. Montgomery Meigs, president and CEO of Business Executives for National Security; Air Force retired Lt. Gen. Brent Scowcroft, president of The Scowcroft Group Inc. and former National Security Adviser to Presidents Gerald Ford and George H. W. Bush; and Walter Slocombe, senior counsel in the law firm of Caplin & Drysdale, Chartered and former Under Secretary of Defense for Policy.
The ISAB is sponsored and overseen by the Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security, Ellen Tauscher. The group met with met with several senior officials.
