As he readies to take over as the Senate’s top defense appropriator, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) over the weekend called for making “generational investments” in defense to bolster U.S. deterrence capabilities and better posture for potential conflicts. McConnell called for increases in defense spending to support the defense industrial base and boost production capacity, specifically stating the U.S. should be investing more in long-range fires, munitions, air and missile defenses and shipbuilding. “The Pentagon is not equipped to meet the…
