Harris Corp. [HRS] recently said it received a $10.5 million order from the Pentagon to supply Falcon III PRC-117G multiband manpack radio systems.

“The AN/PRC-117G is accelerating command decision-making by delivering mission-critical, real-time information to warfighters on-the-move,” Brendan O’Connell, president, DoD business, Harris RF Communications, said in a statement. “In addition to networking deployed forces over wide areas, the radio system also provides access to combat applications such as streaming video, biometric systems, and collaborative chat over secure networks.”

The field-proven PRC-117G provides the DoD with a software-defined, upgradeable platform that enables tactical communications networking, high-bandwidth applications and simultaneous voice and data feeds, the company said.

The PRC-117G is a NSA Type-1 certified wideband manpack radio system. With its fully integrated and NSA-certified High Assurance Internet Protocol Equipment (HAIPE) networking encryption, the AN/PRC-117G is designed to provide the highest level of information assurance connectivity to tactical units.

The Falcon III PRC-117G and Falcon III family of radios are becoming widely adopted by the Pentagon, federal agencies, and key allies.

The PRC-117G is a JTRS SCA-certified and NSA Type-1 certified wideband manpack radio system.

The PRC-117G manpack radio development has followed the U.S. Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) program’s Enterprise Business Model (EBM). The EBM encourages companies to develop next-generation solutions in tactical communications using their own investment capital. In doing so, the EBM encourages competition, increases innovation, reduces costs and speeds development of important capabilities.
