The U.S. Department of Defense awarded Gilbane Federal a design-build construction project at the King Khalid Air base for the Royal Saudi Air Force in Saudi Arabia worth $166 million, the company said on Feb. 9.
The project is managed by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) and was contracted by the Air Force Installation Contracting Agency (AFICA). It is an effort by the United States and Royal Saudi Air Forces to provide facilities needed to support the modernization of the F-15SA aircraft at the King Khalid Airbase.
The contract type is indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) Single Award Task Order Contract (SATOC), awarded by AFICA.
This is a Foreign Military Sale (FMS) project funded by Saudi Arabia.
The project involves the design and construction of new facilities, renovation of current facilities, demolition, and infrastructure upgrades.
A new King Khalid Training Center is included in the work, a place that is to provide academic and hands-on training for F-15SA aircraft maintenance. Also included will be a new Avionics/ Pod Facility and renovations to existing facilities.
New construction will include a two-story academic wing, a one story auditorium, a one story task training wing, a maintenance hangar with two hanger bays, a headquarters/administration facility, four dormitories, a dining facility for 700 personnel, a multi-purpose room, a mosque, a student center, a library, and utility infrastructures.
“I am pleased that the Air Force has selected Gilbane for this important contract. The Air Force is one of our most valued clients and we look forward to a continued partnership with them worldwide. Our company will continue to uphold high quality performance, dedication to our work, and successful execution of projects for all our clients around the globe,” Sarabjit Singh, president of Gilbane Federal, said in a statement.
The airbase project is the largest project Gilbane has ever been awarded, the company said.
