GeoEye Awarded Contract For Vessel Monitoring System For Maldives

GeoEye recently said that it had won a contract from Maldives for a fisheries management and safety vessel monitoring system. As part of the deal, GeoEye will supply 10 Osprey Tracker Terminals for a trial deployment. The system is designed to display vessel positions and consolidate fish catch reports. It also provides the customer with two-way text communication by satellite. The terminals report latitude/longitude (GPS) positions on a pre-programmed frequency using the Inmarsat global satellite constellation.
