Canada and Peru have awarded General Dynamics [GD] Canada a multi-million dollar contract to upgrade and overhaul five SH-2G Super Seasprite helicopters for delivery to Peru, the company said Oct. 29.
Four Seasprites will be remanufactured and upgraded while a fifth will be overhauled before delivery. The contract was facilitated by the Canadian government’s government-to-government contracting organization, the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC).
The contract was a result of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Peru (through the Ministry of National Defense) and the CCC.
“The Peruvian maritime requirement shares many similarities with Canada and these demanding challenges lend themselves to the sophisticated technology developed and delivered into Canada’s Aurora Incremental Modernization Program and the CH 148 Maritime Helicopter Project,” Brian Fava, Vice President of General Dynamics Canada, said in a statement.
The Peruvian Navy will gain access to situational awareness intelligence provided by the integrated sensor suite, “allowing operators to conduct complex surface and sub-surface maritime, blue water and littoral surveillance and search and rescue operations,” he added. This includes technologies like the Sonobouy Acoustics and Stores Management systems.
General Dynamics Canada is also negotiating with Kaman Aerospace Corp. [KAMN] to provide aircraft systems upgrade services and installation of the General Dynamics Canada Mission System, General Dynamics said. Kaman is the original equipment manufacturer of the Seasprite.
