First Of America-Class Amphibs Completes Acceptance Trials
USS America (LHA-6)

The Navy said this week that the first of the America-class (LHA-6) amphibious assault ships has completed acceptance trials without any major deficiencies. The future USS America underwent testing of its major combat, propulsion, communications, navigation and aviation systems during the trials off the coast of Pascagoula, Miss. Jan. 31. The ship is scheduled for delivery in the spring. "The ship performed extremely well," said Capt. Chris Mercer, the program manager for amphibious warfare at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA).…
