FCC, FTC Launch Inquiries Into Mobile Device Security

Concerned about delays in closing cyber security vulnerabilities in the mobile ecosystem, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in partnership on Monday said they have launched inquiries with mobile device manufacturers and mobile carriers into how security updates are issued to address vulnerabilities in smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices.“Consumers may be left unprotected, for long periods of time or even indefinitely, by any delays in patching vulnerabilities once they are discovered,” Jon Wilkins, chief of…
