Britain’s Cobham said last week that it plans to divest two of its business units, Analytic Solutions and Commercial Systems, to focus on areas where it has a “technological and strategic advantage.”
The company is shedding Analytic Solutions, which provides scientific, systems engineering and network centric warfare services to the United States missile defense and national security markets, due to changes in U.S. conflict of interest rules.
The business unit, which is the former SPARTA Corp., has about 1,200 employees in the United States.
The Commercial Systems business provides emergency locator transmitters for non-core retail markets and also supplies avionics products. The business has operations in the United States, Austria, South Africa and France.
“Exiting these two businesses will result in increased investment in, and greater focus on, the products and services of the remaining strategic business units, each of which has a leading position in its market,” Cobham said.
Cobham expects the divestment process to take “some months.”
The company’s remaining business units are Aerospace Communications, Antenna Systems, Aviation Systems, Life Support, Mission Equipment, Sensor Systems, and Tactical Communications and Surveillance.
