Secretary of Defense Ash Carter on Jan. 10 called a meeting of the Defense Department Senior Leadership Council to take stock of where U.S. national security stands before his looming departure from civil service.Uniformed and civilian officials from every military service and combatant command met with Carter to discuss the Defense Department’s current preparedness and plans to transition in 10 days to a new administration.
