TSA Plans Approved Products List for Secure Firearm Transport System
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) plans to develop an Approved Products List for a weapon transport system—what the agency is calling a Secure Transport System—for private party purchases. The list will be used by individuals who wish to purchase a STS at their own expense to pack a Heckler and Koch law enforcement model compact semiautomatic pistol for flying. The STS will weigh no more than four pounds, including the holstered firearm it carries. The STS can travel as a stand-alone item or be concealed inside luggage. Sol. No. HSTS07-13-SN-00059. CBP Envisions Electronic Storefront for IT Products
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued a Request for Information related to an “Electronic Storefront,” which the agency envisions as a vendor-hosted and operated web-based electronic portal that would allow CBP to offer its end users, through role-based permissions, the ability to view and compare information technology products in various categories and place and fulfill orders against established IT products and may payments. Initially only IT goods will be available but other product categories are expected to be added later. CBP will pay costs related to the proof-of-concept stage but is interested in any funding concept whereby ongoing costs to the integrator/operator of the system will be covered by transaction fees charged by the integrator to the product suppliers with each order. EPA Seeks Support for Testing of Homeland Security All-Hazards Technologies
The Environmental Protection Agency has issued a Sources Sought notice for a firm to provide technical support for the testing and evaluation of homeland security and all-hazards technologies for the measurement, sampling, removal and decontamination of radiological, chemical and biological agents. The EPA is the Sector Specific Agency for drinking water and wastewater critical infrastructure protection and is also the lead federal agency for the remediation of areas contaminated by biological organisms, bio-toxins, chemical warfare agents, toxic industrial chemicals and materials, and radiological materials. Army Plans Information Exchange for Biometrics
The Army Program Executive Office Enterprise Information Systems plans to host an information exchange on July 30 to advance collaboration between DoD Biometric programs and industry partners in the areas of Joint Personnel Identification Version 2 (JPIv2), Biometrics Enabling Capability Increment 1, and Program Management Operational Support. The JPIv2 capability will provide the operator the ability to collect, match, store, reference and transmit a biometric modality and or modalities of face, iris, fingerprints, and collect voice in a variety of missions. The BEC Inc 1 effort provides DoD with an authoritative biometric enterprise database repository. The PMOS effort will provide DoD Biometrics and its subordinate program managers with support in program management and engineering. The exchange will take place at Fort Belvoir in Virginia. Sol. DHS S&T Plans Industry Days for AIT and X-Ray Systems and Technology
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology (S&T) branch plans to host an Industry Day on Aug. 15 and 16 in Washington, D.C. to discuss recent sponsored research results and their applicability to explosives detection equipment along with the development strategy related to enhancing explosives detection in checked baggage and checkpoint screening system. The Industry Day will update participants on projects and technology overviews from related industry days last September. Separately, the S&T will also host an Industry Day on Aug. 13 and 14 related to Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) systems and technology. The two-day event will also outline recent research results and technology and discuss work with other agencies such as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in this area.
