Boeing Tests Avenger Vehicle-Mounted Laser To Kill IEDs

Boeing [BA] demonstrated that its Avenger-mounted laser system can take out improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and unexploded ordnance (UXO) threatening troops deployed in war zones, the company said yesterday. Avenger is an air-defense turret that can be mounted on Humvees and other vehicles. Boeing has gained extensive expertise in laser weaponry, because it is the prime contractor in developing the Airborne Laser ballistic missile defense system.
