Boeing Posts Strong Earnings On Operating Performance, Lower Expenses

By Calvin Biesecker Driven by strong operating performance at its commercial aircraft and defense divisions combined with lower compensation and pension expenses, Boeing [BA] yesterday posted strong first quarter net income that hammered consensus estimates. The strong earnings results were paced by the Commercial Airplanes division, which boosted operating earnings 39 percent to $983 million and expanded margins 270 basis points to 12 percent.
