Boeing [BA] announced recently it delivered to the Royal Austrailian Air Force its fifth C-17 Globemaster III airlifter during a ceremony at the C-17 program’s final assembly plant in Long Beach, Calif.

The Australian delegation was led by Defense Minister Stephen Smith and on the U.S. side, the ambassador to Australian, Jeffrey Bleich.

“Australia’s fleet of four C-17s has been on the front lines of defense and humanitarian missions around the world, and continues to demonstrate the aircraft’s great versatility and capability,” Boeing president for military aircraft, Chris Chadwick, said.

Australia reached an agreement with the U.S. government to purchase the aircraft in April.
