The Army plans a tactical network related Industry Seminar July 15 at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), Md., and recommended both business development and technical staff attend.

The seminar, announced June 5 on www.fbo.gov

,  is to keep the industrial base informed of upcoming and long-term capability gaps through the Network Integration Evaluation (NIE) and the Army’s tactical network roadmap efforts, and to support the Army’s tactical network modernization efforts.

On the agenda are a key note address by Kevin Fahey, director of Agile Acquisition in the office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition Logistics and Technology (ASA(ALT)); remarks by Paul Mehney, director of operations for Program Executive Office Command, Control, Communications-Tacticals (PEO C3T); an NIE update by Col. Brett Barraclough, ASAALT, System of Systems Engineering and Integration, and Brig. Gen. Dan Hughes on developing the network after next.

This event is a follow-on to the March industry day.

The seminar will provide industry with information on NIE process improvements and the future of NIEs from the NIE leadership team. It will expand on PEO C3T’s Network Modernization Roadmap capability needs and business opportunities.

The Network Modernization Roadmap synchronizes operational priorities for versatility, mobility and security with technology imperatives and Program of Record (POR) objectives. The roadmap, created by the Program Executive Office C3T in partnership with Communications and Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC), occurs in three interconnected phases: Network 2.0, Simplified Tactical Army Reliable Network (STARNet), and the Network after Next (NaN).

This event will focus on both CERDEC and PEO C3T opportunities within the STARNet and NaN.  It will also provide valuable updates on CERDEC and PEO C3T developmental agreements and business opportunities. A choice of technical breakout sessions and laboratory tours will also be offered.

The Network Modernization Roadmap will simplify the network and lead to cost savings by combining hardware and other infrastructure, increasing competition, reducing software development efforts and decreasing the number of Field Service Representatives (FSRs) required for training soldiers, troubleshooting systems, and sustaining the tactical network. The roadmap is the result of the Army working with numerous stakeholders to define goals, business methods, resources and requirements.

There will be three breakout sessions. The roadmap includes several next generation networking efforts: mission command, network—seamless and on demand, cyber/information assurance, network operations and network implementation.

There will be a guided laboratory tour, allowing industry to see some of the assets that assess and integrate NIE systems and also conduct network modernization roadmap assessments.

One technical breakout session will encompass mission command/cyber topics. A second technical breakout session concerns network operations and network services.

Industry representatives attending the sessions must be U.S. citizens and registrations must be received no later than June 27, or once the 250-person capacity is reached.
