The Department of the Army designated U.S. Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER) as an Army Service Component Command (ASCC) on July 11, the Army said July 15.
This designation, signed by Secretary of the Army Eric Fanning, brings ARCYBER’s roles and authorities in line with other ASCCs like U.S. Army Europe and Special Operations Command. The Army highlighted this as a major step forward in providing unity of command for cyberspace operations in support of and fully integrated with U.S. Cyber Command.
“A dedicated Army Service Component Command for the cyber domain is an important step to strengthen the Army’s ability to deliver important cyber capabilities and synchronize operations for the Army and joint force,” Lt. Gen. Edward Cardon, commander of U.S. Army Cyber Command and Second Army, said in a statement.
Army Cyber Command/Second Army directs and conducts integrated electronic warfare as well as information and cyberspace operations as directed or authorized.
Following this order the commander, ARCYBER, now has the authority to gather resources to organize, develop, and employ cyber capabilities in support of the Army and the joint force, the Army said.
