HP Provides Details on Cyber Contract with DHS
Hewlett Packard [HPQ] says that under its $32.4 million contract with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under the Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation program will provide customers with two products that will allow them to analyze their networks and code for vulnerabilities and gaps. HP was one of four CDM awardees although it received the lion’s share of the overall $60 million in contracts. HP will provide its HP WebInspect and HP Fortify Static Code Analyzer (SCA) to interested federal agencies. WebInspect mimics hacking attacks to enable agencies to analyze their applications and services for vulnerabilities. SCA scans and analyzes software code, allowing agencies to identify gaps at the code level. The CDM program is part of a government-wide effort to move from periodic checks of networks to continuous security.
Implant Sciences’ Desktop Trace Detector Passes Portion of TSA Testing
Implant Sciences [IMSC] says its QS-B220 desktop explosives trace detection system has completed and passed testing requirements of the Qualification Testing and Evaluation (QT&E) portion of the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) explosive trace detection qualification test at the agency’s Transportation Systems Integration Facility (TSIF). In July 2013 the QS-B220 successfully completed the first step of QT&E, called Independent Testing and Evaluation. The TSIF provides an operational airport environment where TSA evaluates technology by its concepts of operation, measures of performance, and measures of effectiveness. “Successfully completed QT&E brings us another step closer to completing TSA’s Qualified Product List process, and we are confident that the QS-B220 will meet the remaining stringent testing requirements,” says Darryl Jones, vice president of Sales and Marketing at Implant. Once on the QPL, products are eligible to be purchased by TSA for transportation security screening.

Israel Tests Passenger Plan Anti-Missile System
Israel’s Ministry of Defense says it along with the Ministry of Transport and Elbit Systems [ESLT] have completed a series of tests on the SkyShield system that protects passenger aircraft from shoulder-fired artillery. The system is based on advanced laser technology that deflects missiles fired at aircraft. The system has been chosen by the Israeli Ministry of Transport to protect Israeli planes. The Defense Ministry says the tests were the “most complex and sophisticated ever held” in Israel. The Ministry also says the tests included a wide variety of threats that SkyShield would have to defend against to protect passenger aircraft.
