The State Department has approved a potential $950 million deal with Brazil, which would include the sale of 12 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress on May 24 of the new foreign military sale case, which includes $450 million in Major Defense Equipment and up to $500 million in other equipment and services.
Along with the Sikorsky [LMT]-built Black Hawks, the deal also includes 34 General Electric [GE] T700 engines, 28 Honeywell [HON] EAGLE-M Embedded Global Positioning System/Inertial Navigation Systems, 24 AN/ARC-231A radio systems and additional equipment.
“This proposed sale of UH-60 helicopters will increase Brazil’s capability to provide troop transport, border security, medical evacuation, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, search and rescue, and peacekeeping support. This proposed sale will also promote the U.S. and Brazil’s goal of greater military interoperability,” the DSCA said in a statement.
Sikorsky signed its latest UH-60 Black Hawk multi-year production deal with the U.S. Army in 2022, awarding the company a five-year deal worth $2.3 billion for delivery of 120 H-60M helicopters (Defense Daily, June 27 2022).
With options, the Army said the 10th multi-year deal for Black Hawks could potentially be worth $4.4 billion and cover up to 255 helicopters.
Army Secretary Christine Wormuth has said the service plans to move “immediately” into the next UH-60 Black Hawk multi-year contract upon the conclusion of the current procurement deal with Sikorsky in fiscal year 2027, adding Wednesday it will be a five-year contract covering 24 helicopters per year (Defense Daily, April 10).
