Saab AB received an order for 81mm explosive training mortar grenades for an undisclosed client, the company said Monday.
Saab Bofors Dynamics Switzerland Ltd. (SBDS), a Saab subsidiary in the dynamics business area, will perform contract work including the production and final assembly of the mortar grenades. The company will fill the explosive components, complete final assembling, and perform Lot acceptance tests.
“This order is completely in line with our strategy to strengthen and extend our product group of mortar rounds. Winning this contract underlines the market leading position we have in Switzerland as a house of mortar ammunition,” Stephan Kocher, head of SBDS said in a statement.\
Although the specifics of product amount and customer were not disclosed “due to circumstances concerning the product and cutomer,” Kocher highlighted “this contract is the largest volume of mortar rounds ever produced at SBDS.”
Grenade delivery will occur from 2016 through 2017 as a result of a former development contract that was executive to the customer’s satisfaction in 2015-2016, Saab said.
