Raytheon [RTN] selected BAE Systems to help develop the Air Force’s Dismount Detection Radar (DDR), according to a BAE Systems statement.

BAE Systems will lead the development of the DDR’s radar command, control, processing, exploitation, dissemination and mission planning modules, company spokesman Steven LeCours said Wednesday in an email.  Raytheon, DDR’s prime contractor, was awarded a $77 million contract in February to produce four radar pods with ground moving target indication and synthetic aperture radar technology.

The DDR will be mounted under the wings of MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), which are developed by General Atomics. The DDR will deliver accurate information in adverse weather, day or night, for Air Force intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. Raytheon will also produce and deliver ground stations.

Raytheon spokesman John Barksdale said yesterday in an email DDR work is expect to be completed by March 2015.

Raytheon also develops the multispectral targeting electro-optical infrared system used by the Air Force on the MQ-1 Predator UAV, which is also developed by General Atomics.
