WARRENDALE, Pa., April 9, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — SAE International has published Revision C of Aerospace Standard AS5553 Counterfeit Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical (EEE) Parts; Avoidance, Detection, Mitigation, and Disposition.

This Standard was originally created and has been updated in response to continually evolving, significant, and increasing risk of counterfeit electrical, electronic, and electromechanical (EEE) parts entering the global aerospace supply chain and other high-reliability and critical sectors, posing significant performance, reliability, and safety risks.

The revision effort was conducted by the SAE G-19 Continuous Improvement committee led by Bill Scofield of The Boeing Company. Scofield welcomed the publication of AS5553C which the aerospace industry will rely on to address the risks associated with counterfeit electronic parts.

The new revision (SAE AS5553C) includes requirements, practices and methods related to EEE parts management, supplier management, procurement, traceability and control, training and response strategies when suspect parts are discovered. The requirements in the Standard are intended to be applied and flowed down through the supply chain. It is also for use by organizations that procure and/or integrate and/or repair EEE parts and assemblies, including maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) organizations.
