New PreVeil CMMC Whitepaper Helps Defense Contractors Bridge Gap to CMMC Compliance and Real Security

PreVeil’s white paper provides a clear set of guidelines for contractors on how to bring their data security in line with the new DoD mandates.

BOSTON, Feb. 12, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Today, PreVeil, the provider of end-to-end encrypted email and file sharing, announces the release of its white paper designed to educate and instruct small to large Department of Defense (DoD) contractors on compliance with the new Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC). This white paper comes on the heels of the January 31st release by Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Ellen Lord of CMMC v1.0. The CMMC v1.0 makes clear that all contractors must achieve cybersecurity mandates appropriate to their level to be eligible to bid on contracts with the DoD.

PreVeil’s whitepaper, Complying with the Department of Defense’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), provides a roadmap for small, medium and large enterprises to achieve CMMC compliance for data security. It lays out the cyber security principles behind CMMC, and how PreVeil helps your company meet the new DoD regulations.

“CMMC is an extraordinarily important step by the Department of Defense,” said Randy Battat, CEO and founder of PreVeil. “Industry compliance will put the US Defense Industrial Base in a much more secure position to withstand cyberattacks. PreVeil’s white paper provides a clear set of guidelines for contractors on how to bring their data security in line with the new DoD mandates.”

CMMC v1.0 confirms and clarifies the DoD’s five levels of security standards and reaffirms that self-attestation to a standard is no longer a path to compliance. Going forward, all companies’ data security practices must be audited and certified if they wish to conduct business with the DoD.

The new standard also emphasizes the department’s commitment to ensuring CMMC is not a burden on small to medium sized companies.

Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Ellen Lord said “We understand that CMMC could be a burden to small companies particularly, and we will continue to work to minimize impact — but not at the cost of national security.”

PreVeil’s benefits and features work to provide world-class cybersecurity to companies of all sizes. Its end-to-end encryption for email and file-sharing provides fast compliance with CMMC standards for protecting controlled unclassified information (CUI). It is affordable and integrates easily with existing enterprise IT environments.

Application of the new CMMC regulations will start rolling out in October 2020 and continue over the course of the next five years, with most critical missile programs being the first to be required to demonstrate compliance in their RFPs.

Katie Arrington, Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Defense Acquisition, said “All new DOD contracts will contain the CMMC requirements, starting in F.Y. ’26. Consequently, organizations working with the DOD will need a CMMC certification within the next five years.”
