This will be Tingle’s first visit to his hometown since returning from space. He is looking forward to coming home to Massachusetts, sharing highlights of his six-month mission, and honoring the brave men and women who serve in the nation’s armed services.

The Veterans Day events in Randolph begin at 8:30 a.m. EST with the Veterans Council Breakfast and Speakers Program at the Elks Lodge, 21 School St, Randolph. At 10:45 a.m., Veterans and color guards will gather and march to Randolph War Memorial in Crawford Square for a brief ceremony and a wreath laying at the war memorial. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m.

An experienced veteran himself, Tingle was commissioned as a naval officer in 1991, he earned his wings of gold as a naval aviator in 1993, went on to become a test pilot and is a veteran of numerous deployments. During his military career to-date, he has accumulated more than 4,500 flight hours in 51 types of aircraft, 750 carrier arrestments and 54 combat missions.

Selected by NASA in July 2009 as one of nine members of the 20th NASA astronaut class, he recently served as flight engineer on Expeditions 54 and 55. During the mission, hundreds of experiments were conducted including materials testing, capillary flow experiments, combustion research, a study of the effect of microgravity on the bone marrow, and research into plant growth in space. During his time onboard the orbiting national laboratory, Tingle ventured outside the station for a spacewalk to perform critical work on parts of the Canadarm2 robotic arm.
