JACKSONVILLE, Fla., April 1, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Boyd & Jenerette is pleased to announce that Edward M. Booth, Jr. and Courtney M. Johnson have joined the firm in the Jacksonville, Florida office. Mr. Booth, a partner, chairs the firm’s new aviation law practice. Ms. Johnson, an associate, defends aviation claims and also handles matters involving premises liability, products liability, trucking and auto liability, construction defect, and general negligence claims.

“We are excited to expand our transportation practice beyond motor vehicle and trucking accidents to now include aviation and aerospace law,” notes shareholder Benford Samuels. “Boyd & Jenerette has a 65 year history defending insurance companies and self-insured entities in the Florida and Georgia markets, and we are always looking for ways to be of greater service to clients.”

Mr. Booth was the first attorney in Florida to be Board Certified in Aviation Law by The Florida Bar, a designation he has held since 1996. He currently serves as a member of The Florida Bar’s Aviation Law Committee.

As an active pilot for over 40 years and a board certified aviation attorney, Mr. Booth is an expert in aeronautical and aerospace activities and the ownership, operation, maintenance, and use of aircraft, airports and airspace. He assists clients in the following types of legal matters:

  • Handling claims involving aviation accidents
  • Aircraft, airport operation and air traffic control issues
  • Airmen and mechanics certificate and medical issues
  • Federal Aviation Act (“FAA”) licensing and enforcement proceedings
  • FAA funding and grant assurance issues
  • Aircraft transactions including repossessions
  • Land use at airports
  • Trial testimony as an aviation expert
  • Television and radio aviation expert commentary

Fortunately, airplane accidents are a very small subset of aviation law. Many aviation disputes involve airport land use, contractual disputes over airplanes and airport leases, and airport security matters.

Mr. Booth holds a multi-engine Air Transport License, a Remote Pilot Certificate, and has more than 3,600 hours of flight experience. He owns and operates an airplane that allows him to rapidly respond to his client’s needs.

He serves as an Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Legal Services Plan panel attorney. He is a past chairman of the Florida Bar’s Aviation Law Certification Committee and Aviation Law Committee, a past president of the Lawyer Pilots Bar Association, and a past member of the Jacksonville Aviation Authority Board of Directors.

Complex civil litigation matters involving aviation, products liability, trucking and transportation, construction, premises liability, and asbestos are also handled by Mr. Booth.

His work as a former prosecutor positions him to defend white collar criminal matters. He has tried over 45 jury trials in federal and state courts and is AV® Preeminent Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell.

Mr. Booth has been active in community organizations, including a term as president of the Jacksonville Historical Society. He has served as an advisor to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s office and is a 32-year member of Rotary International.

Mr. Booth is admitted to practice law in Florida, as well as U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida. He is also admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
