The Navy awarded Northrop Grumman [NOC] a follow-on contract to be the design agent for the AN/SPQ-9B surface search and fire control radar, the company said Thursday.

Under the engineering services contract award, the company will provide support for existing and future radar systems, troubleshoot issues, perform redesign efforts as parts become obsolete, and add new capabilities to the baseline system.

This follow-on award will have Northrop Grumman continue to support the installed 50 AN/SPQ-9B radars on ships and at six land sites plus any future systems as they are delivered to the Navy.

This award “will provide the Navy with uninterrupted technical assistance in their system installations, upgrades and follow-on production efforts,” the company noted.

This X-band pulse doppler anti-ship missile defense radar is used on various U.S. Navy ship classes to track low flying cruise missiles, surface threats, low/slow flying aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
