Northrop Grumman [NOC] last Friday said it has signed a 15-year agreement with Norwegian chemical company Chemring Nobel AS

for high-energy, explosive powder used in warhead production, locking in long-term supply of HMX as the company boosts production to meet increased demand due to global events.

The long-term supply agreement for HMX provides Northrop Grumman with guaranteed lead times and annual quantities, and predictable pricing, Northrop Grumman said.

Chemring Nobel has been a long-time supplier of HMX explosive powder to Northrop Grumman, which manufactures warheads at its Missile Products facility in Rocket Center, W. Va.

Northrop Grumman operates the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory at Rocket Center under contract with the Navy and produces warheads for programs such as the Hellfire missile, Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System, and others.

Chemring Nobel is Europe’s largest producer of HMX, Northrop Grumman said.

In May, Northrop Grumman also signed a memorandum of understanding with Norway’s Andoya Space to support Norway’s long-term defense plan.

“Northrop Grumman is committed to supporting Norway and its NATO partners in ensuring the security of the High North,” Stephen O’Bryan, corporate vice president and global business development officer for the company, said in a statement. “The company is forging enduring partnerships with Norwegian industry, having awarded more than $500 million in contracts the last 10 years.”
