Navy Demonstrates Open Ocean TRAM VLS Re-Arming

The Navy successfully demonstrated the first open ocean re-arming of a Mk 41 Vertical Launching System (VLS) with an underway warship, in a major step to field the new system within two to three years.  The test occurred off the coast of San Diego on Oct. 11, with sailors on the Ticonderoga-class cruiser USS Chosin (CG-65) using a Transferrable Reload At-sea Method (TRAM) hydraulically powered device to load an empty missile canister into the ship’s Mk 41 VLS. “Today, we…
