ManTech International [MANT] yesterday said it has acquired ALTA Systems, Inc., a provider of information technology (IT) and professional services, a deal that expands its presence in the federal healthcare IT market.

Terms of the deal, which was financed with available cash, were not disclosed. ManTech said the acquisition would not be material to its financial results in 2013.

ALTA, which was a women-owned small business, has a prime contract position on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Enterprise Systems Development contract, an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract vehicle worth up to $4 billion through May 2012. ManTech said the acquisition will allow it to drive sales through the CMS contract by capturing analytics and IT work. CMS is within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

“This acquisition is consistent with our strategy to steadily expand our service offering in the growing healthcare market,” George Pedersen, chairman and CEO of ManTech, said in a statement. “The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will require significant investment in IT systems and processes. With the acquisition of ALTA, ManTech is better positioned to help government programs and healthcare providers meet their responsibilities to provide efficient and comprehensive health care.”

ManTech entered the federal healthcare IT services market in January 2012 with the acquisition of Evolvent (Defense Daily, Jan. 10, 2012). Evolvent’s customers include the Defense Department, Veterans Administration and HHS.

ALTA operates in three practice areas: capital planning and investment control; system design, development and operation; and fraud detection and statistical analysis.

ALTA, which is based in Northern Virginia, will become part of ManTech’s existing healthcare business. ALTA’s senior management will remain with the company.
