Lawmakers Push Back On Navy’s New Ship Counting Method

House lawmakers have placed language into the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2015 attempting to roll back the Navy’s recent revision to the way it counts ships. The proposal appears aimed at depriving the Navy from including certain types of vessels in quantifying the overall size of the fleet. It declares that patrol boats, hospital ships and ships that are out of service but could return do not qualify as a “combatant and support vessel.” “The term ‘combatant and…
